  • Sacramento, CA (1888PressRelease) February 22, 2012 - Superwomen Boot Camp is sponsoring a women's self-defense class on Saturday March 3 from 9:00am until noon. The event, held in coordination with Damsel in Defense and Dr. Eric McKillican, a martial arts instructor for over 20 years, will donate a portion of the event's proceeds from the $25 ticket price to the Welcome Home Project at Powerhouse Ministries in Folsom. Reservations for the event may be made by calling 916-337-4780.

"Superwomen Boot Camp is all about empowering women to be strong physically, mentally and socially," says Val Fujii, owner of Fujii Fitness and director of the boot camp. "This event is a natural extension of that mission. We've put together a great team. Damsel in Defense has the products and fact-based education that can help women trust their instincts and act quickly to protect themselves. And Dr. McKillican has been practicing martial arts for 30 years and is the father of three daughters, so this is personal to him."

The recipient of the event's proceeds is The Welcome Home Project, which supports the mission of the Powerhouse Transitional Center for Women and Children. It's mission is to provide a secure and healing environment that goes beyond basic needs of housing and meals, offering support and tools for life transformation, with particular emphasis given to the needs of children who may be traumatized by their family's living situation. Eighty percent of the families who have participated in the program have moved on to live as successful, loving and functional families. For more information on the Welcome Home Project, visit www.phmfolsom.com/.

The self-defense event will take place at Fujii Fitness, the home of Superwomen Boot Camp, located at 118 Woodmere Road, #110, across the street from Harley Davidson Folsom and right next to Hawkins School of Performing Arts. Participants over the age of 18 will receive a personal pepper spray in addition to the one-hour information session and two hours of hands-on instruction. Participants are asked to wear workout attire. Space is limited. (A limited number of 13- to 17-years-old girls will be allowed to participate, but they will not receive pepper spray because only legal adults may own pepper spray.)
