Summit In Norway To Discuss Ways To Prevent Offshore Accidents & Limit Their Consequences

Bringing attention to the current need to ensure safety of workers & environment, the Offshore Safety & Risk Forum commenced today at Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel, Stavanger. Chairing the conference today is Tim Ingram, Group Head of Function - HSSE from KCA DEUTAG.
The forum kicked-off with Dr. Joerg Koehli, Team Leader Offshore Safety from European Commission addressing on preventing offshore accidents & limiting their consequences which look into EU offshore safety directive and the challenges faced by stake holders. Shifting focus on field risk management, the delegates heard from Oddbjørn Tolo, Quality & Risk Manager - Offshore Brownfield Management from Statoil. Oddbjørn's session focused on ensuring simplification, standardization & traceability by common work process & tools for operational risk and reporting.
Post luncheon, Howard Thompson, Head of Engineering & Technical Assurance from AMEC will engage designers & planners on how they can curb the unrevealed & the unforeseen risks by analysing on past accidents. Another key session by Marcéll Greeff will be on 'Introduction & Safety at De Beers Marine Pty Ltd'. The attendees will hear from Granberg AS & Raytheon Anschütz, Gold & Silver Sponsors at the forum respectively.
Tomorrow, the forum will kick off with a panel on occupational vs process safety by Jim Trodden, Offshore Installation Manager from Chevron Upstream. Jim will discuss about balancing investments in people & processes. Day two of the forum will focus on managing contractors effectively through ergonomics and continuous human asset development in offshore by Hassanein Al-Sherifi, Head of Human Factor Engineering from Technip and Capt. Tonny M. Moeller, Operations Manager from Maersk Training respectively. Elaborating on what defines 'good' within the topic 'good safety culture prevents accident' will be presenter Duncan Lloyd, Group HSE & Security at Premier Oil
