  • Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) April 26, 2011 - People to People Ambassador Programs, the world leader in global educational travel experiences, announced today that Jacob Zeiher, a ninth-grade student from Saline High School, has been awarded the 2010 Student Ambassador of the Year Award for his exemplary participation in the People to People Student Ambassador Programs. For his achievement, Zeiher has been awarded full tuition and airfare toward the 2011 travel experience of his choice.

Zeiher was selected for the award based on a People to People Ambassador program leader's recommendation and thorough review of his leadership ability and community service, along with a 1,000-word personal essay Zeiher wrote describing how participation in the program changed his life.

Zeiher most recently traveled as a People to People Student Ambassador on the 2010 European Odyssey program, where he and other high school students from around the world visited important historical sites throughout France, Italy and Greece.

For his winning essay, Zeiher drew on the most memorable and life-changing part of his trip, visiting a cemetery of American World War II soldiers in Italy, from which he learned an important lesson about self-sacrifice. He wrote that the experience "taught me that there are greater causes than my own in the world around me. These men died unselfish deaths for a cause greater than that of any one of them. In essence, it taught me to not be selfish in my struggles or do things simply for my own benefit."

"Jacob's thoughtful reflection on his experiences in Europe, along with his ability to be a true leader in his community and beyond, made him stand out to us for this award," says Peg Thomas, president of People to People Ambassador Programs. "Jacob deserves this recognition and the chance to travel with us again in 2011."
