  • (1888PressRelease) February 21, 2013 - (Atlanta, GA) - CEO and Publisher Munson Steed of rolling out Magazine and Steed Media Group, the largest urban private publishing company launched an educational program entitled "Learn it Live" starting with Central Collegiate Academy in Detroit, MI on Friday, February 15, 2013. Steed has obtained success translating online readership with Steed Media Group into global partnerships by merging celebrity spokespersons with America's leading brands and Fortune 500 companies. Steed adopted the same philosophy with "Learn it Live", enlisting actor, television and film star Laz Alonso (Avatar, Fast & Furious, NBC's "Deception") and Vivian Pickard, president of the GM Foundation and director of corporate relations for General Motors Company for a comprehensive workshop with the students of Central Collegiate Academy.

"Learn it Live" is a Steed Media initiative that teaches consumers how to maximize their passions by giving them access to pioneers and achievers in the fields of the most interest to them. Steed selected Alonso for the program after working with him on several accounts proven successful. "Laz is a great example of a celebrity who embodies the ability to educate consumers on a brand while connecting with a diverse demographic," Steed says. "He's also a great example for these students along with Vivian. We're showing these students a reflection of themselves in 15-20 years and that's powerful."

Steed, a Morehouse graduate, believes reaching youth at a pivotal point is crucial in changing the mindset of urban youth. He champions working with companies such as United Way and General Motors/Chevy for standing behind their principles in more than just words. "Through their partnership with United Way, Chevy and the GM Foundation has given over twenty million dollars to schools like Central Collegiate Academy. This enables the schools to provide the best resources available in terms of facilities, technology, personnel and opportunities. Presenting programming like 'Learn it Live' is an outgrowth of that commitment," Steed says.

In the rise of digital media and decline of traditional media such as print, Steed's vision and cutting-edge tactics have successfully sustained the magazine's readership. Rolling out Magazine's recent partnerships with brands such as CVS/pharmacy, Black Atlas/American Airlines, Colgate, and Ford have solidified the magazine's success as the largest black privately-owned publishing company.
