  • (1888PressRelease) September 08, 2010 - Steatite Rugged, a leading UK supplier of rugged laptop and mobile computing technology, has recently loaned a Getac V100 laptop to Neil McDonald and Radek Dusatko's "Climbing for a Cure" expedition. Both climbers, who recently attempted to summit Mont Blanc (the highest mountain in Europe), will also attempt to summit over the next two years Aconcagua (the highest in South America) and Mount Everest - the world's highest mountain. The pair are planning, in addition, several ascents of Ben Nevis and the Cairngorms.

The sole purpose of the "Climbing for a Cure" expedition is to raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF; website address is www.jdrf.org.uk). The expedition is self-funded, meaning all proceeds will be going to the JDRF charity. Neil McDonald and Radek Dusatko will be part of a larger group of climbers for the duration of the three main ascents.

Steatite, with the help of Getac, agreed to provide one Getac V100 rugged laptop to their expedition. The computer was used to communicate with their families in Scotland, to access precise weather forecasts whilst at altitude, as well as to edit footage taken during ascents and descents on all climbs. The team also used the laptop to film and edit a 'video diary' update a daily Blog and social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook whilst in the mountains/at high altitude. Initial feedback received from Neil and Radek is that they were extremely happy with the performance of the Getac V100.

With an Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Core 2™ Duo processor, the V100 boasts a quiet fan-less design with the power needed for sophisticated software applications. The V100 is housed in a magnesium alloy case and features a removable hard drive and high portability 2.2 kg weight along with the lower power consumption Intel Core Duo 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB DRAM and a 120 GB hard drive. This laptop also complies with the MIL-STD 810G and IP65 standards.
