  • (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2013 - St.Louis Alternative Hip Hop trailblazers iLLPHONICS will debut as official showcase artists at the eminent Red Gorilla music festival on march 14, 2013 in Austin, Texas. The band will be showcasing on Thursday, March 14 at 11:00pm at Handle Bar.

Their single, Playin To Win from their 2010 Illusion EP will be featured on the upcoming Compilation series, Indie Anthems that will be passed to music industry veterans and media contacts exclusively at SXSW in Austin this month.

"We need more promotion of our last two EP's which were released independently so having our single featured on a Compilation series that is exclusive to industry events like SXSW, gives us an opportunity to get that exposure," says Fallout Morris (emcee/vocals). That exposure helps us to tour more markets and to create a wider fan base.

iLLPHONICS, which includes bassist Simon Chervitz, guitarist Kevin Koehler, keyboardist Keith Moore and drummer Chaz Brew, and emcee Fallout Morris formed about 2007 at Webster University. They have a love-hate relationship with being known as a hip-hop band. iLLPHONiCS are a live hip-hop act with instrumentation described by the press as being, "The Roots, Vonnegutt, reggae and jazz all in one." They are known for their spitfire hip-hop verses, slick funk and vibrant rock choruses. Certainly, there's a certain honor that comes with being compared to an act as revered as the Roots. But it gets tricky for them. The band's emcee-songwriter Fallout Morris says, "iLLPHONICS is sometimes respected as a band showcasing the evolution of hip-hop; at other times, it's patently disrespected. The game is over-saturated with everybody trying to do one thing," Morris says. "We're not traditional. We flip it up."

Morris, who is as influenced by rappers Jay-Z and Del the Funky Homosapien as he is by rock classics Freddie Mercury and the Rolling Stones, says iLLPHONICS' sound isn't totally hip-hop and isn't totally rock, and it's definitely not just a "jam band with a rapper," as they've been told.

They have shared stages with platinum selling artists including The Roots, Everclear and Lupe Fiasco. They have been setting trends in their hometown market of St.Louis and were voted by St. Louis's RiverFront Times as the Best Hip Hop Collective of 2011. Known for the high energy performances, they have drawn crowds upwards of 800 paid attendees to see them headline.

iLLPHONICS plan to continue recording in 2013, including a full length album scheduled for a Spring release, while continuing to tour in support of their previous releases. Do not miss the opportunity to see iLLPHONICS live when they take the stage at The Red Gorilla Music Festival in Austin, Texas on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Handle Bar. They go on at 11:00pm.
