  • Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2015 - - After more than half a year of preparation, Spirit of Giving hosted its annual Community Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 8th at Village Academy Center in Delray Beach. In conjunction with the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Health Carnival, the event catered to more than 4,000 local in need children and their families by providing them new backpacks stocked with grade-appropriate supplies, new shoes, haircuts, healthy snacks, as well as access to vision screenings and medical resources and information. Spirit of Giving-a collaborative, nonprofit organization with a focus on children and families in Palm Beach County-collaborated with its more than 60 nonprofit member organizations to make the event possible.

At the event children were paired with one of the 200 volunteer personal shoppers, from organizations such as the Junior League of Boca Raton, Fedex, Jarden Consumer Solutions, Maui Jim and Target, who assisted them in selecting their own backpack and supplies. After fulfilling their school supplies list, the children were ushered to the table tops colorfully lined with thousands of pairs of sneakers, courtesy of In Jacob's Shoes. Here, the children had the option to select from a number of shoe brands, such as Asics, Nike, and even Jordans. Outside in the courtyard, ESPN West Palm Beach set up a giant inflatable Boca Bowl-branded football goal for practice kicks and handed out free Boca Bowl t-shirts. Other notable Back to School Bash sponsors included The Jim Moran Foundation, Order of St. John, Vegso, Cobb and Sylvester Foundations.

"On behalf of Spirit of Giving, we want to thank all of our member organizations and volunteers for their hard work and service to the Back to School Bash," said Executive Director Wendy Friswell. "It is because of the collaborations within our community that the Back to School Bash is possible year after year."

Added Board President Ann Rutherford: "Each year the Community Back to School Bash gets larger and larger. Although an increasing number of families and children need help with each Bash, we also have seen an increase in our volunteer numbers. The sense of community in name of the event gets stronger each year; we are looking to keep up the momentum of giving back with the upcoming Boca Bowl game."

The 2nd Annual Boca Raton Bowl sponsored by ESPN West Palm Beach is to be held on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at FAU Stadium. Spirit of Giving is the Official Charity Sponsor of the nationally televised ESPN event, and will be holding a slew of to-be-announced fundraiser events before the big game.
