  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) August 05, 2011 - Sustainable Performance Institute (SPI), which helps design, construction and property management companies institutionalize sustainability practices, announces a joint initiative to support local sustainability initiatives.

USGBC and AIA chapters and environmental nonprofits are examples of community groups that share SPI's vision of a sustainable future. In the spirit of community development, SPI will donate 5% of all Certification and Assessment proceeds to these local organizations. Companies enrolling between July 27 and August 31, 2011 will designate the recipients.

"Our clients are intrinsically connected to the communities they serve," explains Barbra Batshalom, Executive Director of SPI. "We are pleased to extend our support to the organizations they collaborate with, in order to further increase positive and responsible environmental action."

"Sustainable Performance Institute is doing something unique and timely - ensuring that companies responsible for environmentally sound construction can meet or exceed sustainability goals," explains Doug Widener, Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council - - Illinois Chapter. "Their initiative works perfectly with, and compliments LEED, 2030 and other individual assessments or certifications. We are delighted to partner with them, look forward to benefiting from this program."

SPI Certification is the first 3rd-party program to evaluate and recognize design and construction firms' capability to deliver consistent, high quality sustainability services. The Certification provides a roadmap for continuous improvement to help firms understand, set and monitor their sustainability goals. Certification addresses recognized standards and certifications such as LEED, Integrated Project Delivery, and Architecture 2030, but goes beyond these specific guidelines to look at overall organizational capacity. The SPI Certification program includes a diverse range of consulting and training services that guide firms in achieving their sustainability goals.
