  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2016 - Shop outside-the-box this holiday season at SoWa Boston's Winter Festival. Beginning Friday, December 2nd through Sunday, December 4th, 2016, SoWa Boston is kicking off the seasonal festivities with its annual three-day SoWa Winter Festival. This year, the festival will take place in the iconic SoWa Power Station located at 540 Harrison Ave., hosting over 100 of the area's best artisans and specialty food vendors to create the ultimate winter wonderland.

Ditch the crowds, cookie-cutter department stores and the stress of the malls this season. SoWa Boston's Art and Design District creates a shopping experience that is enjoyable and memorable for the neighborhood, while giving the community a chance to shop local and support small businesses.

Guests can take in the festive holiday décor draped throughout SoWa's winter wonderland while singing along to the nostalgic sounds of carols and strolling through over a 100 unique, local vendors selling everything from homemade brownies and knitted hats, to Christmas trees, wreaths and mead. Warm up while shopping with specialty winter cocktails from Area Four, all while giving back this year, as the festival is also introducing a charity gift wrapping station to raise funds for Hearth Inc.

Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. This mission is accomplished through a unique blend of prevention, placement, and housing programs all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of their own. To this end, all housing operated by Hearth provides a creative array of supportive services that assist residents to age with dignity, regardless of their special medical, mental health, or social needs. Hearth believes these goals are best accomplished through respect for elders and staff, with the desire to see both achieve their highest degree of potential.

"Hearth Shares is grateful for the donation of the gift-wrapping station at SoWa's Winter Festival. Shoppers can have their gifts wrapped knowing they are supporting our efforts to end homelessness in Boston," said Dana Green, Director of Institutional Advancement Health at Hearth, Inc. "The exposure and partnership makes it possible for us to reach a larger group of people and make them aware of the solutions to ending homelessness, like building permanent, affordable supportive housing."

This year SoWa is also welcoming local vendor Wine Riot for its first ever "Winter Wine Land." Setting up shop on the charming Thayer Street under a large, heated tent, Wine Riot's expert staff will be on hand to give FREE samples of winter-warmer wines and answer any questions that budding oenophiles might have. To compliment the tasting, guests can savor flavors from four of Boston's best food trucks while shopping and strolling through Thayer Street's favorite boutique shops, galleries and art studios.

    About SoWa Boston:
Previously known as a rundown warehouse district in Boston, the SoWa Art & Design District has since experienced a dramatic renaissance, blossoming into a world-renowned retail & artistic community in Boston's South End. Originally derived from a shortening of "South of Washington," SoWa spans the area from Mass Ave to Herald St (East-to-West) and from Shawmut Ave to Albany St (North-to-South). Not your typical big city retail destination, SoWa is made up of a community of artisans, makers and entrepreneurs that believe in crafting quality, one-of-a-kind products and letting their creativity shine. Spreading out from the artist studios, galleries and shops on Thayer Street (450 & 460 Harrison Ave), SoWa is viewed as the creative center of the city.
