  • (1888PressRelease) October 07, 2010 - Government enforced energy efficiency savings will have a huge impact on industry. This is not something that South African industry can afford to ignore. Companies who embrace best practice and eliminate inefficiency and energy and water waste will not only see cost savings now, but will directly reap the rewards of these policies.

In conjunction with TAS and 2KG Training, AESSEAL pty will be involved in a two day Pump Efficiency and Reliability Seminar on the 18thand 19th October 2010 at the Graceland Hotel, Secunda. The event starts at 9.00am both days and will outline some of the "low hanging" areas of plant energy inefficiencies, which can be cost-effectively addressed. It will also illustrate reliability improvements that can result from such actions.

Strong economic growth, rapid industrialisation and mass electrification means that demand for power outstrips supply. The South African Government has declared that it plans to reduce demand through electricity pricing, as well as promoting energy efficiency and deterring-and if necessary outlawing-energy inefficiency. Eskom aims to reduce demand by about 3,000 megawatts by 2012, and a further 5,000 megawatts by 2025, through an aggressive campaign which includes the introduction of a rationing scheme that will reward and penalise customers based on their energy usage.

Pumps are at the heart of industry and consume 15% of the world's electricity output; rising to 30% if we include their effect on the overall system. Due to neglect and inefficiencies, much of this electricity is wasted - turned into heat, vibration and noise rather than producing throughput. Well managed and maintained pumps can drastically reduce overall process energy consumption, but instead they continue to be overlooked, leading to continuous breakdowns and compromising overall system reliability.

Harry Rosen, Managing Director of TAS, has designed the course and together with industry expert Alan Roddis, Engineering Director AESSEAL plc will help engineers and technicians better understand how optimising both existing and new pumping systems will lead to reduced life cycle costs, major reductions in energy usage and improved reliability:

    • Improve pump efficiency levels by 10-20%
    • Optimise the entire pumping system and achieve overall efficiency savings of 30%-50%
    • Increase pump MTBF and improve overall system reliability

Who can benefit from this workshop?

Plant Engineers, Consulting Engineers, Maintenance Managers, Instrumentation Technicians, Pump Operators, Mechanical Foremen and Process Engineers.

This course is endorsed by Eskom DSM and the National Energy Efficiency Agency in the interests of saving electricity. It offers 2 CPD points to each attendee and costs R4,500.00 (excl VAT) per delegate
