  • (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2011 - The Evelina Children's Hospital, part of Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London, has been using ultrasound to carry out kidney biopsies and assessments for many years and, following a long standing relationship with SonoSite, has chosen an M-Turbo hand-carried system. The hospital holds one of the two largest paediatric renal units in the country and carries out around 150 renal biopsies a year on children of all ages, from infants up to 18 year olds.

Dr Christopher Reid, Paediatric Nephrologist at Evelina Children's, explained: "The M-Turbo is an extremely useful tool; we use it for guiding kidney biopsies and also for urgent or quick assessments of patients who may be suffering from an obstructed bladder or congenital kidney problems. Being able to do the scan ourselves while performing the biopsies, without having to wait for the assistance of our radiology colleagues, is very helpful and we have very good success rates. You need something which is simple to use and gives a clear image of the kidney for guiding biopsies, and the M-Turbo is excellent for this purpose."

Dr Reid added: "Sonosite has always given us good support and the instrument itself is easy to use, easily portable with a good sized screen, and produces images of good resolution - it is absolutely perfect for the job."
