  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) July 21, 2011 - Despite recent predictions of the demise of film photography, film sales are on the rise and vintage cameras have grown extremely popular. To foster the renaissance of the analog photography movement, two small businesses-A&A Studios and OldSchoolPhotoLab.com-have joined forces. Located just west of Chicago, A&A Studios sells vintage cameras, film and accessories. OldSchoolPhotoLab.com is the new online film lab of Photosmith Imaging, which has been processing and printing film in Dover, NH for the last thirty years.

In contrast to what many see as the sterility of digital photography, the analog renaissance has centered on 'low-fidelity' photographs. The images are often fuzzy and dream-like, with peculiarly intense colors; many of them are multiply exposed or split. To achieve these and other effects, photographers have turned to comparatively rare camera designs and film labels; they also require processing for these less common films, often using special techniques. Since analog supplies and services can be difficult to find, A&A Studios and OldSchoolPhotoLab.com have joined forces to meet the needs the budding film photography movement.

In particular, OldSchoolPhotoLab.com will be supplying a full range of lab services for A&A Studios' customers, who can drop off their film at A&A for processing and printing. Such partnerships are particularly valuable considering that many markets lost their local photo labs as a result of the 'digital revolution.' "Our customers are analog fanatics-they come from all over to buy vintage cameras at our shop. They have expressed a huge interest in finding a convenient, local place to develop their analog film, especially in the more uncommon formats," said Anthony Vizzari, owner of A&A Studios. "We are excited to fill the void of traditional photolabs locally by partnering with OldSchoolPhotolab.com." To celebrate the partnership, A&A Studios will be giving away two rolls of 35mm film with the purchase of any 35mm camera of $25 or more, as well as offering 10% off processing to customers who drop off and pick up in store.

OldSchoolPhotoLab.com also sees an advantage in partnering with businesses like A&A, which is the epicenter of the vintage photography community in the Chicago area. "Establishments like A&A studios are doing a tremendous job reminding people what is valuable about film-you just have to step into their store to see people excited about film again," says Steve Frank, the owner of OldSchoolPhotoLab.com. "Keeping film alive will be a collective effort-we're thrilled to work with the people at A&A."
