  • (1888PressRelease) June 03, 2015 - According to the founder of the school, Kamil Haque, 32, the discount will enable people who were previously unable to afford acting classes to attend them, "As our way of giving back." This is also in line with a 4 week series of Pay-What-You-Can Acting workshops where attendees were given the freedom to receive professional coaching for whatever fee they could give or felt it deserved.

HCAC is part of a larger trend of start-ups being established in Singapore, the result of aggressive governmental initiatives encouraging business people to set up such companies in the country. As of 2014, the Singapore government has already invested $100 million into local start-ups, and spent $10 million on constructing a technology hub, complete with 3D printers and laser cutters, so as to facilitate the development of technological prototypes by young entrepreneurs.

Tim Carroll, the vice president of small business engagement at Deluxe Corp, a marketing platform for small enterprises, estimated that 50% to 70% of start-ups usually shut their doors within 18 months -which means that it is already a feat for start-ups like HCAC to make it to their second year anniversaries.

HCAC's achievement is particularly impressive given its humble roots-it started in a small classroom space in Tanjong Pajar with only 10 students and offering just 1 class. Within 2 years, the acting school has already taught over 250 students, with its teacher population and class offerings growing correspondingly to include more than 20 instructors and 10 courses for actors and non-actors aged 12 and up. Its achievements send an encouraging note to other start-up hopefuls in Singapore: Go ahead and do it!

The reason for its success? Offering credible, practical and customized acting lessons for people regardless of their background to express themselves and to free their talent, says Mr Haque. "Having a methodical approach ensures that your work will always speak for itself."
