  • Tallahassee, FL (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2012 - Community members of Tallahassee and surrounding areas are invited to support the fourth annual A Night Under the Stars Scholarship Gala. The event, hosted by the Simmons Scholarship and Community Service Corporation, takes place on Friday, October 19 at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center located at 505 West Pensacola Street in Tallahassee.

"The Simmons Scholarship raises funds to provide educational opportunities and exposure to students who may otherwise have no resources," noted Simmons Scholarship President O. Jermaine Simmons, Sr. "For the past 25 years, the Simmons Scholarship has presented more than $400,000 in scholarships to benefit college-bound and currently enrolled students. A Night Under the Stars is our largest single fundraising event."

At A Night Under the Stars, the Civic Center banquet hall will be transformed into a soothing water oasis, reminiscent of a paradise of moonlit waterfalls and sandy beaches. Gala guests will truly experience the sparkle and charm of a starry night at the beach.

Featured at the Gala will be a silent auction, a sumptuous dinner, and live entertainment. The evening's performances will highlight local talent such as Tallahassee's own One Friday Band and will include a special performance by George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic. More than 300 educators, benefactors, parents, and other community supporters attended the 2011 Gala.

Underwriters of this year's event in support of Simmons Scholarship include Jacob Chapel Baptist Church, Tallahassee Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, The Honorable Alan Williams, Becker & Poliakoff P.A., Naturally U Art and Braid School, Parks & Crump, LLC, FAMU Director of Athletics Derek Horne & 2-1-1 Big Bend Development Director Sheila Horne, and Fabulous Festivities.

This year, the need is even greater as scholarship requests have increased significantly over last year. For more information about the Simmons Scholarship and Community Service Corporation and the Scholarship Gala, please visit their website at www.simmons-scholarship.org.
