  • (1888PressRelease) November 30, 2010 - The Urbana site is home to a highly experienced team, with preparation knowledge for more than 100 metal halides from across the periodic table, as well as an understanding of the proprietary beading technique that offers the advantages of very low trace moisture content and ease of handling and delivery. This foundation now serves the medical and radiation detection markets and is expected to expand the Aldrich Materials Science offering to serve the energy, electronic and other hard materials markets.

The Urbana facility has capabilities in solid-state synthesis, ceramic processing, metal alloying, purification of metals and metal salts, beading technology, inert gas handling and packaging, as well as a full analytical suite. These capabilities are used in the preparation of alloys, complex oxides and composites for energy and biomedical applications, as well as advanced structural and electronic ceramics for electronic applications.

"The experienced team and capabilities at the Urbana site enables custom materials design for industrial and academic customers. It also enables our participation in a variety of exciting projects, such as our collaboration with the Ames Laboratory (Ames, IA) to address the current rare earth metal shortage crisis," said Dr. Viktor Balema, Market Segment Manager, Aldrich Materials Science.
