  • (1888PressRelease) July 24, 2013 - Barrie, Ontario - Shred North, the local paper shredding company in Barrie, Ontario will be holding a 'Charity Shred Day' on Saturday, August 10th, 2013 between 9:00am and 12:00pm at Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka at 10 Quarry Ridge in Barrie. Residents are encouraged to bring out their confidential documents to be shredded by the Shred North mobile shred truck for only a donation of $10 per box or shopping bag with 100% of funds collected going toward Gilda's Club.

Shred North, the winner of the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce EDO New Business Award for 2012, is holding the shred day in order to both raise funds for Gilda's Club as well as to assist in combating identity theft in the community.

"This is a great opportunity to accomplish two goals", states Ryan Giffen, local resident and CEO of Shred North. "Helping educate citizens in regard to protecting themselves against identity theft as well as raising funds for a great community charity like Gilda's Club is a great thing to be a part of".

With identity theft on the rise in Canada, the need to shred confidential documents is at an all-time high. Incidents of identity theft have increased by as much as 250% in some areas of North America. With a large number of citizens are storing older confidential files in need of shredding, the shred day offers a simple, local solution.

"The hope is that we can provide a secure outlet for residents to have their information destroyed", states Giffen. "In the process, we can also help increase awareness of a community support group such as Gilda's, which will benefit the community as a whole".

Gilda's Club is an international network of affiliate clubhouses - non-residential, homelike meeting places where men, women and children living with cancer, as well as their friends and families, meet to learn how to live with cancer.

As a show of support, Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman has proclaimed August 10th, 2013 as "Charity Shred Day" in the city.
