  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) March 15, 2014 - ShopRite of New Milford, an Inserra Supermarkets store, is undergoing a full renovation approved by the Borough of New Milford in early February. The store, which had a roof collapsed last month in the aftermath of an ice and snowstorm, will remain closed for the next two months.

As a courtesy to local residents, Inserra Supermarkets is providing free shuttle bus service throughout the course of the store closure to its ShopRite of Emerson. The shuttle bus runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, departing from ShopRite of New Milford's parking lot. Customers are served on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Located at 814 River Rd., ShopRite of New Milford has operated at its current location for more than 50 years and is currently the borough's only supermarket. In addition to repairing the roof, interior renovations include installing new flooring, reconfiguring aisles and adding a coffee shop-like area.

"While we had planned to keep the store open during the approved remodel, the roof collapse simply did not allow us to do so," said Lawrence Inserra, president and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets. "We appreciate the past patronage and continued patience of our customers during this time and look forward to providing them with a new and improved shopping experience in the very near future."

Inserra Supermarkets is committed to the communities in which its stores are located. ShopRite of New Milford participates in the annual Partners in Caring program, spearheaded by ShopRite's parent company Wakefern Corporation. The New Milford store's employees have raised in excess of $6,000 and supplied the local Church of the Ascension food pantry with cart-loads of much-needed perishable items. ShopRite of New Milford also donates ice pops to the town's Memorial Day Parade, organizes Toys for Tots toy drives, donates Thanksgiving turkeys to the local food bank and adopts families during the holidays.

Established in 1954 by Patsy Inserra, the company remains true to its roots as a family-owned grocery chain committed to serving families and children. In 1980, under the entrepreneurial guidance of the late Lawrence Inserra, Sr., the company grew to eight stores and experienced a banner year in 1981, growing to 14 stores.

Today, the company owns and operates 22 ShopRite supermarkets. In addition to the New Milford and Emerson stores, Inserra Supermarkets are located in Bayonne, Columbia Park, Fair Lawn, Hackensack, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Jersey City, Lodi, Lyndhurst, Northvale, Palisades Park, Passaic, Ramsey, Wayne and West Milford in New Jersey and in Rockland County, N.Y., in Garnerville, New City, Stony Point, Tallman and West Nyack.
