  • (1888PressRelease) December 04, 2010 - Celebrating the commitment of artists from across Ontario, Sherway Gardens' (Hwy 427 and the QEW) current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled Progression incorporates works by artists who were featured in the initial Progression exhibition at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg, which exemplified the McMichael's commitment to artistic heritage and the development of contemporary creative expression in Canada. The exhibit is on display until January 29, 2011. For more information call 416-621-1070 or visit www.sherwaygardens.ca.

In 2009, the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg hosted the first Progression exhibition, a selection of works produced by artists who had studied in classes at the Gallery under the guidance of faculty from the Haliburton School of the Arts, Fleming College. The paintings from this exhibition have travelled from Kleinburg to Sault Ste Marie and from there to Neilson Park Creative Centre and Sherway Gardens' Gallery In The Garden in Etobicoke and will continue to tour Ontario this year.

Progression celebrates the commitment the artists have to expressing the spirit of this country through their work, a vital development to Canadian art. John Leonard, AOCA, RCA, and his students have created a body of work that reflects a passion for painting and pays homage to the work of the Group of Seven, who advanced Canadian art and played a prominent role as advocates for the importance of art education during a defining epoch in our nation's history.

All works in this exhibition are 12" x 16" and are not currently for sale while the exhibition is touring. If you wish to contact any of the artists to discuss the work in this show or to see other works, please call the curator.

Sherway Gardens' Gallery in the Garden was established to showcase local artists. The Gallery in the Garden operates all year round and each exhibit is on display for approximately 6 weeks. The Gallery in the Garden is located at Sherway Gardens' door 3 entrance.
