The Awards celebration honored five powerful women who have achieved success in business and inspire other women and teens around the globe to own their Power while balancing work, family, home and health.

    The 2017 ShePOWER SheROEs honorees included:
    MELINA THORPE, R.N., M.B.A., O.C.N., the Oncology Director for San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) with direct oversight of The AIS Cancer Center along with The Breast Center. Melina received the SHE HEALS AWARD in celebration of her commitment and passion to heal women through quality cancer care, giving them back their POWER.

    NIKKI BLUE, Assistant coach with CSU Bakersfield Women's Basketball. Nikki received the SHE GAME CHANGER AWARD in celebration of her commitment and passion to blazing the path, so teens and women will know that you can own your ShePower on your terms.

    SHANNON GROVE who represented the 34th Assembly District, CEO/ Co-founder of Continental Labor and Staffing Resources, candidate Senate 2018. Shannon received the SHE LEADS AWARD in celebration of her commitment and passion to lead without apology.

    ADDONICA STANLEY, Principal at Bakersfield City School District, Bessie E. Owens Intermediate School. Addonica received the SHE EDUCATES AWARD in celebration of her commitment and passion to educate the next generation of leaders.

    CHRISTY PORTER, Founder, President of the Jasmine Nyree Centers, Inc. Christy received the WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD in celebration of her exceptional work and commitment to women, teens and our community.

    The event was hosted by Arleana Waller, Visionary, Founder, CEO of ShePOWER Global. The Award presentation was presented by the ShePower Socialites Charter Members, Arleana Waller, Diane Williams, DeAnna Lewis, and Robin Pepper-Hunt.

    The dinner and awards presentation was well attended by Bakersfield Leaders such as Karen Goh, Mayor of Bakersfield, Michael Bowers Andy Vidak Office, Patrick Jackson President NAACP, Nick Hill and Tomeka Powell, former Presidents of the Kern County Black Chamber of Commerce, Superior Court Judge Tiffany Bowles, Ricki Peace Director of Donor Relations at Boys & Girls Club, Wendy Porter Executive Director Wounded Heroes Funds, Gloria Williams California Resources Corporation, and Kevin Burton President of the San Joaquin Community Hospital Foundation

Mayor Karen Goh, United States Congress David Valadao, United States Congress Kevin McCarthy, California State Assembly Rudy Salas, California State Assembly Vince Fong, California State Senate Kean Fuller and Senator Andy Vidak all honored the honorees with certificates of recognition.
