  • (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2010 - Congregation Shaarey Torah, affectionately known as "The Shtieble," has existed for over five decades as one of the centerpieces of Orthodox Jewish communal life in Manhattan Beach and in the surrounding Brooklyn communities. Orthodox Jews such as Alvin Weiss have lived in the community and supported the congregation for many years.

Today it remains a beacon of light, proudly opening its doors daily to emanate The Light of Torah for all who seek spiritual growth and awakening.

Led for the past ten years by Rav Moshe Plutchok, this Makom Torah occupies a significant place in the lives of hundreds of Jews, providing dedicated mechanchim for men, women and children of all ages, along with dedicated ba'alei batim, and kollel members, whose love and devotion to keeping Yiddishkeit alive and flourishing knows no bounds.

Over the past two years the building itself has been renovated to help accommodate a kehilah that has nearly doubled in side, and continues to grow exponentially.

You can now express Hakoras Hatov to the Ribono Shel Olam in a most meaningful way, and honor parents, grandparents and loved ones who can no longer do Mitzvot on their own by acquiring a share in the mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah. "It's a worthy cause everyone can get involved in" says supporter Alvin Weiss.

Moreover, by contributing to this unique mitzvah, you will help perpetuate the stability and growth of this worthy kehilah and the Torah-centric ideals for which in stands.

The Sefer Torah will be completed by Chanukah and dedication opportunities are still available. Please join us in this historic endeavor to write the first Sefer Torah dedicated and owned by "The Shtieble" itself, and acquire a share in the study of Torah and the honor of Torah, while expressing gratitude to the Almighty.

On Sunday, December 12, at 3:00pm, Congregation Shaarey Torah will complete the Sefer Torah in the Plutchok home, 158 Beaumont St. Hachnosas Sefer Torah will begin at 5:00pm and dinner at 6:30pm at the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center.

Now in a marked departure from the past, we are calling on all our members, past and present, along with out neighbors and friends to help us raise the funds needed to pay off our mortgage. Thereby allowing "The Shtieble" to continue its work in the community and extend its efforts in youth and adult Torah education, and in kiruv in a neighborhood with America's largest Russian-Jewish immigrant population.
