- (1888PressRelease) February 21, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 027.24 to keep businesses involved in the manufacture, renovation and/or sale of bedding, mattresses and other upholstered furniture up to date with the latest requirements being enforced in Washington D.C., USA.
On August 1, 2023, Code of the District of Columbia, Title 8, Chapter 5 (Manufacture, Renovation, and Sale of Mattresses) came into force. This requires all businesses within scope to complete registration with the Division of Community Hygiene. Registration must be performed every two years, and it applies to all entities – facilities, businesses, retailers and corporations involved in the sale, selling or storage of bedding, mattresses or other upholstered furniture. The aim is to enhance regulatory measures and maintain elevated hygiene standards.
Once a business has registered, it obtains a license and will be able to label relevant products using the standardized Uniform Label format before housing or offering them for sale in Washington, D.C.
