  • (1888PressRelease) August 11, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a summary of Europe’s new safety standard for carry cots and stands – EN1466:2023.

The new standard was published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) in June 2023. It updates the 2014 iteration in response to safety concerns relating to new product types, particularly non-rigid carry cots. Central to the concerns over these product types is the fact they are intended for unsupervised sleep, where safety issues are most important.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 094.23 to help businesses understand the refinements to the standard. It includes a look at how the standard has been restricted and redefined to expedite its introduction and the primary changes that are being introduced. There is also an example of the pictogram that must now be affixed to products with the warning statement: “Never leave the child unattended.”

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 094.23 to learn more.

European National Bodies have six months to publish the new standard in their catalogues with a proposed one-year transition period for any conflicting standards. This means the transition period should end in June 2024.

There is also the expectation that EN1466:2023 will be listed in the Official Journal of the EU and will have presumption of conformity with the General Product Safety Regulation.
