  • (1888PressRelease) September 13, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help stakeholders understand the European Union (EU) proposal to replace Directive 2009/48/EC, the so-called Toy Safety Directive (TSD).

A draft EU toy regulation was published at the end of July 2023. If accepted, it will replace the TSD and bring in a number of high-level changes for manufacturers and suppliers of toys to EU markets. These include the requirement for a digital product passport, the addition of mental health as a risk and more stringent chemical requirements.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 108.23 to help stakeholders understand the draft regulations and its impact. It includes a comprehensive summary of the changes proposed and details of the transition period.

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 108.23 for more information.

The EU Commission is currently accepting comments on the draft – feedback period ends on October 21, 2023. The draft and comments will then be discussed by the EU Council and Parliament.
