  • (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2019 - The Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) Certification Program ensures that sewn products are being produced in lawful, humane and ethical conditions. It follows the WRAP Principles, which are based on generally accepted international workplace standards, local laws and workplace regulations. This includes the spirit and language of relevant conventions from the International Labor Organization (ILO).

    The Principles cover:
    • Human resources management
    • Health and safety
    • Environmental practices
    • Legal compliance, including:
    o Import/export and customs compliance
    o Security standards

The WRAP Certification Program’s objective is to independently monitor and certify compliance with these standards. It is voluntary, with participating facilities committing themselves to ensure that their manufacturing practices meet relevant standards. There is a further commit that these ideals will be passed along the supply chain to contractors and suppliers.

To help stakeholders in the sewn product market understand the key technical points to WRAP Certification, SGS has produced a simple refresher document that details the various certification levels, audit scopes, and the requirements relating to CCTV footage, fire drills, emergency doors and rest periods. For example, the document explains how certification can be awarded at one of three levels – Platinum, Gold or Silver – depending on the facilities ability to demonstrate compliance with WRAP’s 12 Principles.
