The firm was recognized for its work on New Century International Elementary and its attached community-use West Regional Branch Library. Triangle Business Journal's Green Awards honor those in the Triangle who make efforts to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into their businesses and their communities. SfL+a Architects was recognized among other individuals, businesses, government leaders and entities, and nonprofit organizations at an awards event on Oct. 19, at the Embassy Suites in Cary, N.C. A special focus section featuring the Green Award winners was published in Triangle Business Journal on Oct. 22.

    A single-story commercial project and a 2010 Eastern NC AIA Design Award Winner, New Century International Elementary was designed to LEED Platinum standards by SfL+a Architects and is in an elite group of schools nationwide that are designing to earn an ENERGY STAR Rating of 99 or better. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
