  • Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) March 20, 2021 - Mr. Hubbard was born in Tilden, Nebraska on March 13, 1911. He spent his formative years in Helena, Montana – a place that in his words “swallows men up rather easily, hence they have to live bigger than life to survive.”

“Images of those early years are on display at the Information Center,” said the Center’s Manager, Amber Skjelset. “But what interests people the most are the filmed interviews with those who knew L. Ron Hubbard, including a college classmate, those who served with him in the US Navy during World War II and a young neighbor from the very dawn of what would become Dianetics.”

The Information Center also provides information about Mr. Hubbard’s career as a writer and educator but also his lifework – technology to help a person better survive life’s ups and downs.

“I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days,” said Mr. Hubbard in the article ‘My Philosophy.’ “These shadows look so thick to him and weigh him down so that when he finds they are shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again in the sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted as he is.”

The Information Center is located at 500 Cleveland Street and is open daily from 10am – 7pm, with a break for lunch between 1 and 2. No appointment is needed, however visitors are required to wear masks and gloves, which are provided at no charge. For more information, contact (727) 467-6966.
