  • Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY (1888PressRelease) December 19, 2012 - Ask them about their science book, and more likely than not, they will pause or draw a blank. Sean Reed, author of 'Milo and Bruno Rocket to the Moon', wants to change that for our future scientists.

"I love sci-fi and I owe much of what I am today to the reading I used to do as a child, particularly science fiction and fantasy books," said Reed. "I want to share Milo and Bruno in the hopes I can help spark young kids' curiosity and interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, or STEM for short."

Reed has written an adventure book where Milo and Bruno, 7-year-old twin bears go on a space adventure to the Moon, and explore the outer limits of their world.

"My mission is to get kids to be curious enough to ask their parents how to build a time machine," Reed explained. "If they can go to the Moon before dinner, what would happen if they flew to the sun, or travel to another planet, or 20,000 leagues under the sea?"

Reed wants to ignite the types of questions that science fiction asks, and answers. "That's why I think addressing some of these themes, even lightly, in picture books read to young children, seems like a worthy thing to do," Reed continued.

Reed has launched a campaign on Kickstarter to raise awareness, build a fan base, and to raise the $4,500 needed to publish and promote the 'Milo and Bruno Rocket to the Moon'. Kickstarter.com is a crowdfunding site, where interested parties can contribute to 'in-progress' projects which are interesting or important to them. Contributions can start for as little as one dollar up to tens of thousands of dollars.

"So far the response on Kickstarter has been encouraging," said Reed, "and we still need help of parents, science enthusiasts, and people in the science community to make it happen for Milo and Bruno."
