John E. Ursin Shares Steps To Prepare A Business For Succession Planning.

In a wide-ranging conversation, Ursin focused on closely held businesses and the various ways a company can be owned or structured for tax benefits as well as legacy planning.
The episode highlighted the value of using a seasoned attorney when establishing the structure of a new business.
Ursin also discussed how to successfully prepare exit strategies, and the need to understand what your business is worth. He explained, “That’s why you need a broad team and people that can advise you. You need the broad team to tell you about the capital markets. Is your business worth more or less now? Is it increasing in value? What can you do to increase it in value? When is a good time to sell? And then take into consideration all the tax consequences and then, dovetail that into your retirement plan. The two things have to work together.”
