  • Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 07, 2014 - The impact of the recent New York State Non-Profit Revitalization Act on local non-profits was the subject of the inaugural "Fist to Five" event in Albany hosted by SaxBST, one of the nation's top 100 accounting firms. The interactive discussion, entitled "How to Survive Change in the Not-for-Profit Community," took place on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Wolfert's Roost Country Club.

Todd W. Polyniak, CPA, director of SaxBST's Not-for-Profit Industry Services Group, moderated a panel of experts, each of whom addressed specific aspects of the recent legislation and how not-for-profits and their employees are responding. The panelists also responded to questions from the more than 50 not-for-profit community leaders in attendance.

Michael Cooney, Esq., partner in the Washington office of Nixon Peabody LLP, discussed the significant ways in which the new law will affect providers and investors as well as clients and other beneficiaries of the not-for-profit community. Karen Bilowith, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region in Albany, addressed how local not-for-profits are responding to the legislation, and offered advice for how organizations can manage these and future changes. Anne Saile, president of The Saile Group, examined effective techniques for individuals and groups to positively manage significant change.

The SaxBST Not-for-Profit Industry Services Group adopted the phrase "Fist to Five" - a metaphor for bringing consensus among a group of people - to describe its dedication to bringing together individuals, groups, and organizations to experience transformation and reach their full potential.
