  • (1888PressRelease) December 11, 2008 - GlobalMedicalResearch.org is a collaborative group of top medical researchers and computer scientist experts from the international community. The group was inspired by Tim Berners-Lee's (inventor of the World Wide Web) vision for harnessing the power of the Semantic Web in order to make it easier to discover cures for disease.

The group represents an exceptional group of noteworthy individuals who have made substantial contributions in the fields of medical and computer science. Members work at many of the world’s top research centers: including Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins, Stanford University School of Medicine, Yale, Mayo Clinic, NASA, Scripps Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, among many others. Computer scientist researchers include Semantic Web Activity Leads for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), computational biology experts from around the world, and software engineers from Cisco, Oracle, and Microsoft.

The researchers focus on sharing information and for critical health problems as outlined by the World Health Organization. Those areas include heart disease, strokes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes. The Website exists purely for humanitarian purposes. Resources are free and devoted simply to collaboration and research.

The group was founded by Diane Michel, M.S., Senior Web Producer, for Soflex Online. She is a developer of communities and collaborative platforms that facilitate global medical research for the life sciences. The complex Website of Global Medical Research.org was made possible through her work and development and also the efforts of open source programmers for Joomla. Joomla is an ideal content management system that keeps members current on the latest research breakthroughs, and also allows for a highly dynamic organized online community.

Groups interested in creating their own online communities and collaborative environments are encouraged to contact Soflex Online at 1-800-346-6910, ext. 13.
