Micro-RNAs have emerged as very important markers for a large number of cancers such as lymphoma, lung cancer, colon cancer as well as many others. Employing a silicon-optical chip, single RNA molecules can be detected using conventional fiber optic detection systems at low concentration and with high specificity. Support from SCCBG will be used to take the next pivotal study in the detection of mi-RNA cancer biomarkers in clinical (patients with lymphoma) serum samples.

"The Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group would like to thank the Santa Cruz community for the great success of all of our 2012 fund raising events: the Spring Forward Against Cancer Gala, Spring Forward Against Cancer Tennis Tournament and Gourmet Grazing on the Green," said Dr. Beckett, Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group Board Member. "The success of the events over the past 16 years has pushed the organization to over the $1 million mark in total funds raised. Together we helped improve the lives of cancer sufferers in our county and supported research efforts that could bring future cures".
