  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) April 21, 2012 - What's old…is new again. The people of San Francisco are going crazy for pushups as a way to get in shape…and give something back to our wounded warriors. It's called Pushups for Charity™, and it's causing quite a stir.

Run by Kristen Nolan of I Luv My Body Fitness, a fitness company here in San Francisco, Pushups for Charity is a fun way to get fit and make a difference by supporting the Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and men and women of the U.S. Armed Services who have come back home and could use a hand.

The Pushups for Charity™ Challenge takes place on Saturday, May 19, 2012

Complete information is available at www.PushupsForCharity.com/i-luv-my-body-fitness for those who want to participate, donate or just come out and watch these three teams compete to see who can do the most pushups in 90 seconds.

"Our goal is two-fold," explains Kristen Nolan, owner of I Luv My Body Fitness the fitness company running the Pushups for Charity event here in San Francisco, "we want to show our support for our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security, and we want to engage our local community in a fun way to get fit."

"The community is really rising to the challenge - there is a lot of interest in Pushups for Charity. I think that says a lot about our community's interest in supporting wounded warriors, and is a reflection of how much people appreciate the importance of being healthy," says Nolan.

Pushups are one of the foundational exercises for overall body strength and lean muscle development. Lean muscle increases metabolic activity so the body burns more calories. Additionally, pushups are a simple exercise anyone can do almost anywhere. "Pushups are a gateway exercise," says Nolan, "people feel results quickly, sometimes within days, and that inspires them to do more exercise."

    The Boot Campaign

The Boot Campaign is a grassroots military appreciation and veteran awareness campaign started by five women from Texas, known as the Boot Girls. The Boot Girls launched the Boot Campaign in 2009 to spread awareness of the needs of military personnel returning home from combat and express gratitude to current military. Through the sale of military combat boots, the Boot Campaign donates proceeds to a group of partner charities that work with soldiers healing from a variety of physical and emotional combat wounds, embodying the campaign motto that, "When They Come Back, We Give Back." www.BootCampaign.com
