San Diego Cellars opens new urban winery and tasting lounge in Little Italy

  • San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2012 - San Diego Cellars, the full-production, ultra premium wine making facility and tasting lounge with locally-produced wines and live entertainment, will open in August 2012 at 2215 Kettner Blvd. in Little Italy. The urban facility will include a wine preparation area, a tasting lounge and a relaxing outdoor garden patio.

    Initial wines to be served at the new venue will include the 2008 Syrah, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2009 Viognier, all from locally grown San Diego County grapes, as well as the 2008 South Coast Viognier/Edna Valley Chardonnay Blend. In addition, San Diego Cellars will serve a 2009 Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi by Hipper Family Winery.

    San Diego Cellars will also offer wines from local winemaker Matthew Richards. Initial wines will include the 2008 BDX Blend from Sonoma, 2008 Cabernet Franc from Napa Valley, 2008 Pinot Noir from Edna Valley, 2008 Chardonnay from Lake County and 2008 Chardonnay from Edna Valley.

    "We've always wanted to bring our wines to an actual setting where they could be savored and enjoyed," said San Diego Cellars co-owner Todd Hipper. "This unique urban space, tucked within Little Italy's design district, was instantly ideal for us."

    Wines will be available for tasting and consumption on-site as well as for purchase by the bottle or case to take off-site. San Diego Cellars will offer a selection of local craft beers and wines by the glass. In addition, the winery will feature a tasting lounge that will provide appetizers and entrees including artisan cheeses and charcuterie, grilled panini, salads and desserts.

    San Diego Cellars will offer live entertainment, private parties for wine club members and event space available to rent out for special occasions.

    San Diego Cellars will also offer a distinct refillable wine bottle program featuring limited edition wines only available at the winery. In addition to table wines that will be available for tasting and consumption at SD Cellars, patrons can purchase the refillable bottles for a one-time price and enjoy exclusive access to discounted refill prices.

    San Diego Cellars will produce approximately 2,000 cases of wine per year. All wines will be made and aged on the winery premises from grapes imported from San Diego County and from select premium wine appellations throughout California.

    San Diego Cellars will be open daily for lunch and dinner. The venue will be open until 11:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 12:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
