The old adage that says, 'It takes a village to raise a child' , fell to mention that the same village is needed when those children grows up.

Thankfully, the owners of The Village Corner Restaurant, in Stone Mountain Village, knows this fact. Claus, Hilde, and their son Carl, are all about their community, and the people, young and old within it, when it comes to support. Here is what they are trying to do for one of their own with your HELP !

We are having a big Blues/Jazz evening under the Stars to benefit a Stone Mountain resident who is on the kidney transplant list, but needs to raise money for this.

The gig is on September 3rd, 7:30 PM at the Village Corner. Usually our gigs are free, but for this we are asking a $ 20.- cover charge which will go into Horace O'Kelley's Kidney Fund. For that reason it is tax deductible. Of course we are, as always, serving great food and brew.

Horace has been on dialysis for over 10 years and has with that beaten all statistics. The average live expectancy for dialysis patients is 3 to 4 years. He and his wife - they met at dialysis clinic - were sent on an educational tour for other dialysis patients a couple of years ago and gave talks in Washington and New York.

Now both are on the kidney donor list. They have to raise $ 10,000.- each to be considered. That is the estimated cost of the medication needed, once they have the new kidney, for the first year!

Horace was an athlete, never drank alcohol or smoked, and has always been as slim as bean stalk and yet he was struck by this terrible disease. But he has never lost hope and confidence that sometime there will be a new functioning kidney for him.

We are asking the community to support this. Whether you can come to the fantastic music evening with Sammy Blue and friends, or just want to contribute, everything is welcome and tax deductible. Checks should be made out to Horace O'Kelley Kidney Fund.
