  • (1888PressRelease) July 19, 2010 - RWE sponsors the First European Energy Transparency Award launched, solely and independently managed by the Florence School of Regulation (FSR). RWE asks other companies to join this initiative as co-sponsors to help promoting further transparency of the energy wholesale markets and/or contribute by submitting good initiatives to enhance energy market transparency.

The faculty of the European University Institute in Florence invites undertakings, institutions, industry associations and system operators to submit proposals for the first European Energy Transparency Award. The Award is an annual competition and will distinguish a market participant for its particular contribution to the transparency of energy markets in Europe. The deadline for nominations is 31st July 2010.

Continued promoting of transparency in physical and financial energy markets is the best way to foster an open and competitive European energy market and the better understanding of the public of the benefits of free energy markets. For this reason the Florence School of Regulation created the Energy Transparency Award and have won RWE as the first sponsor on this advanced project. Stefan Judisch, CEO RWE Supply & Trading, says: "Transparency is indispensable for well-functioning energy wholesale markets and is a decisive prerequisite for variety and liquidity in the emerging European energy markets. That's the reason why we are happy to support this initiative." RWE is already providing an outstanding range of supply and demand data from its power production to the market.

All Market participants are asked to submit their or others contributions to enhance the transparency of the energy flows and/or energy transactions in Europe. The winner will be selected through a selection committee chaired by Jorge Vasconcelos, founding chairman of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER). In October the FSR will grant the Award in the course of a public dinner event in Brussels.
