  • (1888PressRelease) May 10, 2012 - Today’s event is attended by district mayor Heinz Buschkowsky and other representatives of the Neukölln district and of the participating companies.

District mayor Heinz Buschkowsky explains: “With its wood cogeneration plant and the new administrative building, RWE Innogy has sent a clear message regarding the adaptability and sustainability of this traditional industrial location here in Rudow. I am particularly happy about the fact that with the new InfoCentre for renewable energies an attractive new facet has been added to the already diverse educational landscape of Neukölln.”

Dr Hans Bünting, CFO of RWE Innogy, about the restored building: “The result is something to be proud of. Together with the monument protection authorities we have breathed new life into this ruin. The original architecture was preserved and modernised, allowing our staff to fully concentrate on the development of renewable energies in Berlin.”

During the renovation and modernisation works the outer shell of the building was completely refurbished and the original colour of the façade was restored. Many of the characteristic style features were reconstructed with great attention to detail, including the entrance area, the staircase, elements of the balustrade (which were innovative at the time) and parts of the floor.

The building core was redesigned, and the around 1,700 square metres of floor space now accommodate offices, meeting rooms, staff rooms and store rooms.

One of the key features of the building is the InfoCentre on the ground floor, which is equipped with info columns, interactive media and presentation technology. Bünting adds: “The well-presented information we provide is an answer to the growing interest in renewable energies and our own activities in this forward-looking area of the energy industry. It is also designed to place new focus on our site here in Neukölln. We would therefore be delighted if the schools and other educational facilities in the area would use the centre.”

The centre provides guided tours for groups and is expected to be visited by interested parties and professional representatives from industry, politics and society as well as groups of students from Berlin’s universities and school classes, especially from Neukölln and surroundings.

The InfoCentre can also be used as a conference venue, meeting and seminar room. Associations and organisations from Neukölln can hire the multifunctional premises for meetings.

    Additional information
The InfoCentre is available by prior arrangement and appointment only. On request, the visit can be combined with a guided tour of the neighbouring wood cogeneration plant, provided this is compatible with safety and operational requirements.

We will invite representatives from schools and other educational facilities from Neukölln and surroundings to attend a special event. The event is planned for October 2012 and will introduce the centre’s information services. We are also planning to introduce a training opportunity for lower secondary teachers on the topic of renewable energy, which was developed by RWE Innogy.
