  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) June 15, 2012 - An Aikido based women's self-defense class will be offered free of charge by Aikido Association of Atlanta at Roswell Budokan on Saturday June 23rd starting at 1:30 pm.

The class will focus on situational awareness, empowerment, defensive postures, striking, joint-lock and control techniques. Participants will practice easily mastered, practical martial arts techniques in a gym setting and engage in role playing exercises that cover the most feared situations

Aikido, often described as zen in motion, is a modern Japanese martial art rooted in traditional ju-jitsu techniques. Primarily defensive in nature, Aikido focuses heavily on attack evasion, mighty throws and controlling joint locks during a defensive posture. It does not rely upon size, strength or athletic ability, making it ideal for youths, women or smaller individuals.

The class will be lead by Sensei Simone Maranto, Sandan (3rd Dan aikikai) and a number of other volunteer instructors with decades of martial experience.
