  • Rockford, IL (1888PressRelease) May 03, 2016 - Rosecrance Flower Day at Gensler Gardens marks the official start of the planting season and raises funds for mental health and substance abuse treatment programs and services.

The event is set for 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at both Gensler Gardens locations: 8631 11th Street, Davis Junction; and 102 Orth Road, Loves Park.

Shoppers have an opportunity to enter a drawing to win one of several Mother's Day gift baskets valued at more than $200 each.

Rosecrance volunteers will be on hand to help shoppers find their way around the greenhouses and assist in carrying purchases to vehicles.

The annual sale is always set for the Thursday before Mother's Day, which is the typical turning point in northern Illinois for safe planting. Gensler Gardens is known for its lush and healthy hanging baskets, traditionally a favorite for Mother's Day gift giving.

Gensler Gardens offers a full greenhouse selection of annuals, perennials and gorgeous hanging baskets. The Gensler family generously donates a portion of the day's proceeds to Rosecrance. Flower Day annually raises about $25,000 to support treatment services.

"We are enormously grateful to the Gensler family for kicking off the planting season with a special event that benefits the people we serve," said Anne Boccignone, Rosecrance VP of Communications and Development. "Community support for Flower Day goes directly to help people who don't have funds for treatment."
