  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2013 - Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley, P.C. (RMKB), a multi-service law firm offering litigation and transactional services nationally and internationally, adds senior admiralty and maritime attorneys J. Patrick Geraghty as partner and Robert A. Suarez as of counsel. Both attorneys come to RMKB from Hackensack, N.J.-based Harwood Lloyd LLC.

"Pat and Bob are strong, senior-level additions to the firm. There is a natural fit between our robust insurance defense practice and maritime law, making this new practice truly complementary," said Mike Ioannou, Chairman of RMKB. "As an organization, we continue to grow strategically in concert with our clients' needs."

"We are excited to join Ropers Majeski. The firm's national and international presence - and, in particular, its extensive footprint on the West Coast close to critical ports in Long Beach and Oakland - provides us with a platform to grow our maritime practice," said Geraghty. "Combined with our proximity to the New York-area terminals, we are now able to provide clients a truly extensive reach."

Geraghty concentrates on maritime litigation and transactions, with an emphasis on cases involving admiralty law, commercial transportation and maritime insurance. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating complex international commercial agreements and domestic contracts. Active in the legal community, he is a proctor of admiralty in the Maritime Law Association and an adjunct professor of admiralty law at Rutgers University School of Law - Newark. Geraghty earned his J.D. in 1995 from Seton Hall University School of Law, his M.B.A. in 2013 from New York University's Stern School of Business and his B.A. in 1991 from Boston College. Geraghty is leveraging his M.B.A. in finance and strategy to expand the group's transactional practice.

Suarez focuses on defense litigation with an emphasis on maritime commercial matters. He represents ship owners and operators, terminal operators, classification societies, and underwriters in litigation, arbitrations and appeals. In addition, Suarez represents clients in regulatory proceedings. He received his J.D. in 1992 from Temple University's Beasley School of Law and his B.A. in 1988 from Rutgers University.
