  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2016 - Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley, P.C. (RMKB), a multi-service law firm offering litigation and transactional services nationally and internationally, announces the opening of its Paris office. Headed by RMKB's 25-year Partner François G. Laugier, a native of France specializing in the representation of technology and emerging growth companies, the Paris office will offer a full range of transactional and litigation services for clients in the U.S. and across the European Union. The addition of a Paris presence brings the total number of firm offices to nine, including Redwood City (headquarters), San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles, Calif.; Boston; Las Vegas; Seattle and New York. The firm also has a strategic affiliation with the Liau, Ho & Chan firm in Hong Kong.

"Ropers Majeski continues to focus on strategic growth that will create value in geographic markets and industries where our clients' needs are evolving. The new Paris office is a response to tremendous demand we have seen from clients for cross-border experience and counsel to help them achieve their business goals in both the United States and the European Union," said Michael J. Ioannou, firm chairman. "Our firm's deep ties in regions such as Silicon Valley, experience across the European Union and ability to navigate between the business and legal climates of both places will be an enormous asset for our clients."

"I am excited to lead the Paris office and steer this next step in Ropers Majeski's growth strategy. We see so much potential in connecting French and other European businesses and entrepreneurs with growth and funding opportunities in the United States, namely in the technology industry," said Laugier. "As a native of France who has devoted more than 20 years to helping clients do business in both the United States and Europe, I look forward to working with my colleagues to serve our growing client base in both regions."

The Paris office is located nearby Place de la Concorde, at 4 rue Saint Florentin, Paris, 75001.

The Paris office will provide a broad array of legal services to French and international clients, including in the areas of corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, business and commercial litigation, insurance services, intellectual property and tax, among others.

The attorneys of the Paris office are licensed to practice in the U.S. and in France, and can assist their clients throughout the European Union.

Laugier focuses his practice on the representation of technology and emerging growth companies and has extensive experience counseling clients in cross-border transactions, and with regard to all aspects of corporate law, including entity formation, equity financing, corporate structure inversions ("flips"), mergers and acquisitions, licensing, employment, commercial leasing and intellectual property protection. His clients include international entrepreneurs, investors and companies in the technology and biotechnology sectors, among other industries.

Laugier has long-standing experience serving clients in the U.S. and in France, and has fostered a strategic affiliation for RMKB with LightHouse Law Firm (LHLF) in Paris. The LHLF affiliation has benefitted the corporate transactions practices at both firms and paved the way for a permanent office.

"With the current business climate and the efforts of the French government to promote "La French Tech," it is a fitting time to solidify our firm's presence in the European Union with the Paris office. Furthermore, as a result of our firm's deep bench and client base, which extends throughout Europe, including Brussels, London and Zurich, this will be a truly European-wide practice," added Laugier. "It is exciting to see this venture take shape, which combines the local expertise of our firm with a global knowledge base and network of legal resources."

Laugier is a regular guest lecturer on international law and taxation issues as part of the entrepreneurship track at Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris (HEC Paris), one of Europe's leading business schools. In addition, he is the Northern California regional president of the Foreign Trade Advisors ("Conseillers du Commerce Extérieur") to the French Ministry of Economy and Finance and a past president of the French American Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco.
