  • (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2012 - Robert Geneid, Borsamulu Resort Sdn Bhd Managing Director, has announced the launch of an Annual Scholarship Prize and Encouragement Award for students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan along with a gift of RM2,500.00 for the Parents and Teachers Association of Sekolah to use as incentives for selected students. The scholarship, awards and the gift are through the auspices of Borsarmulu Park Management Sdn. Bhd.

    Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan , a rural elementary school in the division of Miri, in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, near the World Heritage Site, Gunung Mulu National Park. The school houses 156 students comprising of 81 boys and 75 girls. This is the only school serving the Penan village of Batu Bungan.

    The Annual Scholarship Prize is established as a cash prize and reimbursement for Secondary School educational expenses and is to be given to the top 3 final year students of the school. The top local student will be awarded a RM250 prize in cash and RM500 reimbursement for the costs of Secondary School education. The student with the second place will be receiving a RM100 prize and a reimbursement of RM400 for their secondary school educational costs. The third placed student will be also be given a RM50 in cash plus a reimbursement of RM200 in Secondary School educational expenses.

    The Parents and Teachers Association, the Principal of SK Batu Bungan and the Gunung Mulu National Park's Park Manager will be responsible for the nominations for the Scholarship Award. The Park Manager will have the final approval for the nominations.

    The Encouragement Award is given to one student in each year level during the end of each school term. Each award winner will receive a book voucher, of different value depending upon the grade year and school term, from Borsamulu.

    The selection criteria for the Encouragement Award winners are based on academic achievements, improvement and general behaviour both inside and outside of school. According to Brian Clark, the Park Manager, the award is not for naughty students no matter how smart they are! The winners will be decided between the Parents and Teachers Association, the Principal of SK Batu Bungan and the Park Manager.

    Robert Geneid hopes that these incentives will help to encourange the students of the school to not only improve academically but also to be better students overall. This in turn will help the local population develop into a stronger and vibrant community.
