  • (1888PressRelease) March 25, 2011 - At the European Seafood Exhibition, in Brussels (Belgium), between 3 and 5 May of this year, REUNIPECHE (Booth 5-401), which is already well established in the European, Asian and American markets, will present its expertise and look to develop its international export activities. REUNIPECHE is based on Reunion Island, the French overseas département located in the Indian Ocean (near Mauritius).

Thanks to its rigorous approach to the fishing, storing, carving, packaging and transporting of goods, REUNIPECHE has become synonymous with quality produce that is perfectly suited for use in raw preparation. REUNIPECHE's catalogue includes a wide variety of species from Reunion Island waters. These species include swordfish (which is characterised by its tenderness), yellowfin tuna (with its distinctive, fine, red meat), bigeye tuna (with its fattier meat), albacore tuna, mahi mahi, mako shark, and sailfish.

Using the longline fishing method, the fresh fish is caught in waters south east of Madagascar, around Reunion Island, and as far as Mauritius waters (FAO zone 51), using environmentally friendly methods that target the catch. Most of the fish are brought out alive, which ensures the quality and freshness of the fish.

Once on board, the fish is slaughtered according to the Japanese Tanagushi method. A nylon thread is circulated through the fish's nerve centres to prevent stress and the production of toxins. The fish are then cooled in brine tanks containing sea water and ice, before being stored in ice inside a refrigerated hold.

By virtue of its quality and variety, REUNIPECHE's offer is in tune with popular trends in the market for food products in European countries and in other developed nations, where there is a growing concern for health and a quest for healthy food. Fish is an excellent source of protein and is a valued alternative to meat.
