  • Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2011 - Ohiya's cute, cuddly and crass characters to show off branded apparel, toys and accessories at the Cultyard of New York Comic Con, booth #984. 'Ohiya' brands making their NYCC debut include Zoomipop, Zombuddiez, Mythtaken, Katinja and rock band Smööch

The colorful characters of 'Ohiya' (www.ohiyafriends.com) have announced their inaugural trip to New York Comic Con, being held October 13-16, and will be toting a plethora of apparel and accessory items with them. Made up of groups based on unique characteristics and personalities, the Ohiya residents are brought together through their love of friendship and adventure. They expect to find both this year in booth #984 in the Cultyard section of NYCC.

"We're really pumped to meet all sorts of new people," said Smeat Stevens, lead singer of Ohiya band Smööch. "It's been a long time since our last visit to the Big Apple, so I speak for the rest of the gang when I say it's going to be a rockin' good time."

Ohiya is a magical place where the simple act of saying "Hi" is more than just a friendly greeting - it's a way of life! The inhabitants of Ohiya mirror the unique qualities within all of us and serve as a reminder that creating a friendship is like a work of art - built one brush stroke at a time.

Lucky for us that's the only kind of art they practice - the art of making friends.

    About Ohiya

'Ohiya' is the culmination of sketches and ideas from Ohio-based illustrator Jason Tharp in partnership with Top 100 global apparel licensee Ripple Junction. Tharp began working with his fellow Ohioans at Ripple Junction in early 2011. A self-proclaimed 'obsessive dreamer,' Tharp's main hope is for Ohiya to encourage others to explore the magic and mysteries of life. "Ohiya encourages us to go beyond personal boundaries and to simply say, 'Hi.'" proclaims Tharp. "A chance encounter can suddenly turn into something magical, all with the help of a simple two letter word." Tharp will be showing off his cuddly creations and doing some impromptu sketching at booth #984 in the Cultyard section of NYCC.

Tharp's characters are grouped under different names that reflect their characteristics and personalities, including 'Zombuddiez', 'Smooch', 'Zoomipop', 'Mythtaken', and 'Katinja'. All of the characters and sub-brands are unique and have their own backstory, yet they're tied together through similar qualities. They will all be on display at New York Comic Con in the form of t-shirts, vinyl toys, plush and other accessory items!
