  • (1888PressRelease) October 26, 2010 - The X Factor might still be grabbing the headlines, but families thinking of saddling up for a riding holiday in 2011 are being urged to vote for Ranch Rider's Colorado Horse-nality of the Year. The tour operator has teamed up with Colorado Tourism to launch the western themed talent contest: trusty steeds from across the US state, battling it out for the prized title.

New horse-nalities will appear each week on the tour operator's dedicated blog (accessible from ranchrider.com) from now until the end of December 2010. A major incentive to participate, every vote will be entered into a random draw, one winner trotting off with a 7-night Lost Valley summer ranch stay (for two adults and two children) in Deckers, Colorado.

Saying goodbye to gameboys, generating a passion for the great outdoors and building confident young minds through challenging horseback experiences, are just some of the reasons why parents choose to ride out west. But according to Ranch Rider, it's the horses that really make the holiday - the tour operator basing this reasoning on the development of the novel contest.

The specialist features seven family friendly ranch stays across Colorado, Ranch Rider introducing the luxury North Fork Ranch in its forthcoming 2011 brochure.

At the Lost Valley morning and afternoon horseback rides through the Pike National Forest are complimented by an endless array of adventure pursuits including hiking, river tubing, fishing and square dancing. A weekly guest rodeo, campfires and hayrides complete the package. With three kids clubs including a teen hangout, there is no shortage of entertainment and there's even a baby-sitting service for under twos! 7-nights FROM £774pp (adults), £699pp (13-18 years) and £589pp (6-12 years). Excludes transfers.

NEW For 2011! - Whether you decide to hit the trail, fancy yourself as an archer or just want to kick back and indulge in a relaxing massage, the North Fork Guest Ranch pretty much has it all! Nannys, grandparents and nominated caregivers are able to stay at a special rate, and the owners have an authentic teepee where the kids can camp out! 7-nights FROM £1,945pp (adults & children). Excludes transfers.

Based in Colorado's Rocky Mountain High Country, at the Vista Verde it's non-stop adventure! Out of the saddle children can enjoy hot air ballooning, rock climbing, treasure hunting, gold panning and animal tracking. Little cowboys and Indians will be blown away by the "pow-wow" held at the local teepee, and parents with "too cool" teens can kick back while their kids enjoy camp outs and nights in Steamboat. 7-nights FROM £2,273pp (adults) £1,787 (6-11 years). Excludes transfers.

The Elk Mountain Guest Ranch is an all-inclusive family homestead featuring the best of the west and more. Adventurous kids can go rafting in the white water capital of the world or trek through historic Ute Indian battle grounds in search of prized arrow heads. 7-nights FROM £1,110pp (adults) £755pp (8-12 years). Excludes transfers and gratuities.

Play Stations will become obsolete at the Colorado Trails, as the ranch's wranglers never fail to make die hard gamers (whether "tots" or "teens"), fall in love with the great outdoors. Aside from horseback rides through the San Juan National Forest, nature hikes, rafting and power tubing down the Vallecito Lake are on offer, and there's even an overnight camp out for "Brave Buckaroos" (five and upwards). 7-nights FROM £1,479 (adults) £1,230pp (5 years +). Excludes transfers.

Ranch Rider also offers stays at the Focus Working Ranch (7-nights FROM £1,354pp (adults) £685pp (10-13 years) £834pp (14-17 years) and Black Mountain Ranch (7-nights FROM £1,787pp (adults) £1,502 (6-14 years), both homesteads catering to families in search of an authentic western experience.
