  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2012 - Raleigh Heating & Air, a family-owned heating and air conditioning service and installation company, is proud to announce the acquisition of Morrissey Mechanical, Inc. The acquisition has allowed Raleigh Heating & Air to develop an in-house geothermal division that designs, installs and maintains geothermal heat pumps for customers, a more cost-efficient way to heat and cool homes.

"We have always been committed to investing in new technologies to better serve the needs of our customers," said Chris Barnhill, CEO and owner of Raleigh Heating & Air. "Taking advantage of geothermal technology can mean reducing customer energy bills by up to 70 percent."

Chris Morrissey, former owner of Morrissey Mechanical, Inc., heads up Raleigh Heating & Air's geothermal division along with owner Chris Barnhill and service manager Brian Barber. He decided to join forces with Raleigh Heating & Air because of the growth and development opportunities its infrastructure is capable of. Collectively, they have over 50 years of experience and all members of the geothermal division are certified by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) to install geothermal systems.

Geothermal heat pumps use the relatively constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool a homeowner's indoor space. Energy from the sun is absorbed and stored in the ground, allowing the temperature below the earth's surface to essentially stay the same year-round. Geothermal systems make use of this sun to earth energy with an underground loop system that extracts heat from the ground in the winter and reverses the process in the summer by moving the hot air in the home back into the earth.

Not only do geothermal systems eliminate hot and cold spots in the home, they also improve humidity control by maintaining about 50 percent relative indoor humidity. They are less expensive to operate and maintain than most common systems and reduce total energy costs by 40 to 70 percent. All components of the geothermal heat pump are buried underground or located inside the home, eliminating noisy fan units and exposed equipment outdoors. The underground pipe also carries up to a 50-year warranty.

Raleigh Heating & Air provides service to Wake County and is an authorized dealer of Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Amana and York systems, as well as Climate Master, Water Furnace, Bosch and Geo Comfort geothermal systems.
