  • Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, SC (1888PressRelease) June 12, 2013 - R. K. Redding Construction (RKR) of Bremen, Georgia, a full service, multi-disciplinary construction management and general construction contracting firm, received two awards from AGC Georgia, the statewide chapter of The Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. (AGC of America) at its "Build Georgia" award ceremony in Hilton Head Island, SC. The firm's work on the Trinka Davis Veteran's Village was recognized with a First Place Award in the construction division and a Merit Award for best sustainable practices.

"The Trinka Davis project was an exciting and humbling one for RKR, since we knew this facility would serve as a home to many military veterans in the area," said Randall Redding, President/CEO of RKR. "We are certainly honored to receive these awards but, besides those men and women whom the facility will serve, the true hero is Trinka Davis, whose gift made this facility a reality."

RKR served as the General Contractor for the Trinka Davis Foundation to build a Primary Care Clinic and an Assisted Living Facility for the Veterans Administration of America. The Trinka Davis Veterans Village is a $17 million gift from the Trinka Davis Foundation of Birmingham, AL, and is staffed and operated by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

At the grand opening event, Dr. Robert Petzel, Under Secretary for Health, US Dept. of Veterans Affairs, said, "The Trinka Davis Veterans Village is absolutely the finest community-based veterans' clinic and assisted living facility that I've ever been associated with."

Trinka Davis Foundation President Fred Kelley said, "RKR not only built the project in accordance with the high standards specified, but also seemed to take ownership of and pride in the project. The Foundation could not be more satisfied with RKR's work in constructing this sophisticated and beautiful facility."

Located in Carrollton, the 83,000 sq. ft. complex features a 48-bed assisted living capability, as well as 88 treatment and rehabilitation rooms. It has already been certified as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold facility by the U.S. Green Building Council. The original 12-month schedule was condensed into 10 months from completed design to substantial completion in order to meet the needs of the legal and financial transfer from the Trinka Davis Foundation to the United States Government.

Recent AGC Georgia Awards for RKR include the following projects: GT Boggs NRE Lab Renovation and UWG Campus Bookstore (2012), Paulding County High School addition and a Best Sustainable Practices Award (2011), UWG's Greek Village (2010), North Paulding School Cluster (2009), and Rockmart Middle School (2008).
