  • (1888PressRelease) September 20, 2011 - Some of the world's top leadership experts and providers of global training products delivered keynote speeches and demonstrations of their programmes to over 70 human resources executives from throughout the Gulf for the launch of new leadership development organisation, Qiyada, which aims to tackle these skills shortfalls.

Human Resources heads from organisations across the UAE, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar arrived at The Address hotel in Downtown Dubai to hear global experts: Talan Miller, founder of Australia-based team development specialists, Sabre Corporate Development; Graeme Kirkup, director of South Africa-based development organisation Business Today international and Dave Newby, COO of Canadian communication specialists McLuhan and Davies.

Qiyada's director, Triptta Neb, claims the poor results for the Middle East region are due to the period of rapid economic expansion, particularly in the GGG countries: "Communication is very poor in this region for a number of reasons, including poor top-down leadership and a lack of job clarity. This is largely as a product of the rush during the last decade to fill positions and cope with burgeoning demand during the boom period, without the time spent training and developing the skills necessary for success - such as communication and leadership.

"Leadership is not all about having a clear vision but also knowing how to communicate this vision effectively down through an organisational hierarchy. Our research findings prove leaders in this region don't communicate properly because of a less collaborative 'top down' approach. Many managers and leaders have reached and held their lofty positions through being promoted due to technical ability and experience, rather than leadership and communication skills and these survey results demonstrate how many organisations have fallen behind in this part of the world.

"However, things are rapidly changing and, like the rest of the world, companies are now focused on business efficiencies, so are looking to develop their human resource infrastructure, demanding increased motivation, productivity and ultimately return on investment from leadership development programmes. The growth in this area has been noticeable since the recession slowed the Middle East economy and has made companies re-evaluate their training requirements and their approach to Development of their human resources.

"Long gone are the days where organisations in this region merely competed to get the bodies in place to cope with spectacular growth and now it's about having the productivity, commitment and motivation to create new opportunities for expansion," says Neb.

The GCC's training and leadership development industry is big business, estimated to be worth up to $10 billion per year, and many companies spend upwards of $150,000 on annual training courses to improve effectiveness and ultimately profitability.

One of Qiyada's exclusive licenses are with global teambuilding specialists, Sabre, and founder Talan Miller expects a dramatic increase in productivity throughout the Gulf by companies finally taking part in leadership training courses.

He says: "It's not just about being able to communicate but it's also about striving for understanding within organisations. We at Sabre have delivered programmes to thousands of organisations across various industries, multinationals and governments around the world and are delighted to be bringing our products to the Gulf in partnership with Qiyada.

"There's a huge opportunity here to make a real difference and it's exciting to be here at a time where there is a noticeable spike in organisations intent on growing the next generation of leaders - whether Gulf nationals or expatriates.

"Productivity issues are particularly common in organisations across the GCC and incorporating leadership development courses can help management teams bring more clarity to their people. Of course leaders need a clear vision of the organisation and the direction it is going, but this vision is of little value unless it is shared in a way that generates motivation. Leadership and communication are inseparable and many of the global products we have now sourced and licensed for the Gulf will ensure these elements are in place."

Qiyada brings some of the world's best known leadership, business acumen, communication and team building activities and events to the Middle East through licenses, with each tailored to ensure local relevance.
