  • (1888PressRelease) May 22, 2011 - LA-based Pop-Artist Sean D'Anconia will be showcasing his new collection of fine-art originals at the annual "Paint the Town Art" charity fundraiser to be held on the evening of May 20th, at the law firm of Snell & Wilmer.

The fundraiser, now in its 3rd year, supports the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education which facilitates education and artistic development in young people.

This year's "Paint the Town Art" theme is "Vegas, My Love" and D'Anconia is one of 25 artists invited by curator Jessica Lo to participate, including Gary Baseman, Chris Reccardi and Heather Hermann.

Highlights from D'Anconia's offering include 5 hand-painted mixed-media "originals" created in his signature "Pop-Fusion" aesthetic. Combining photography, drawing, digital art and paint, Canadian-born D'Anconia has established an international reputation as a leader in a new & emerging Pop-Art movement that values innovation over orthodoxy. His seductive visual universe marries cult-cinema & animation to a wild, pop-art stylization and features an often daring warholesque color palette.

D'Anconia studied both film & photography at Brooks (Santa Barbara) before being recruited by a Senior VP at Miramax. D'Anconia spent several years in the film industry before deciding to develop his "films" on canvas along with various consumer and apparel products. "I wanted to break away from the sometimes stifling nature of the film industry and find expressive freedom on canvas and other mediums. Nobody can tell you which actors to feature when you hold the brush-literally", explains D'Anconia.

Recently, D'Anconia's artistic styling has been featured in the creative endeavors of such companies as Warner Bros, Bob Marley, New Balance, General Mills and Sanrio. His apparel and accessory collections are a staple of upscale boutiques and department stores like Saks 5 Ave, Fred Segal and Kitson. All the while, D'Anconia has steadily developed a group of international collectors and galleries interested in showcasing his cinéma vérité as applied to Pop-Art.

For the "Vegas, My Love" theme, D'Anconia focused his creative energies on developing a selection of works that highlight the gambling mystique as seen through both Western and Asian eyes. His pieces include "The Gambler", featuring a Hugh Jackman-like character gambling in a traditional Japanese kimono adorned with Irezumi tattoo prints, amidst an ethereal setting of Las Vegas, Tokyo, Mt Fuji and New York.

Other pieces include "Daughters of the Red Peony", paying homage to femme fatale gamblers from Japan's golden age of Yakuza cinema. "Hello Wedding" features the iconic Hello Kitty in full Vegas bride's garb, with Kitty-ish family members in tow. D'Anconia will also feature an original of his virtual Bond-inspired universe "Majestyland" - a future London meet Vegas which doubles as the setting for much of his work.
