  • Glens Falls, NY (1888PressRelease) May 23, 2013 - The King's Garden will present a special program on June 4 led by herbalist Nancy Scarzello for a hands-on demonstration to plan and plant your herb garden for this year's growing season. "Planning & Planting the Medicinal Herb Garden" will take place at 2:30pm - 4pm (rain date June 5th). The program fee is $20 and includes instruction, site admission from 2 pm, handouts and take-home plants. Friends of Fort Ticonderoga program fee is $15.     "The program will cover plant placement and offer insight on how to choose perennial, biennial and annual herbs," said Heidi Karkoski, Fort Ticonderoga's Director of Horticulture. "Learn which plants do best from seed, how to make divisions, retail sources for herb seeds and plants, and everything required to give herb gardens a fresh start for a new season." Participants will also help to revamp this year's King's Garden while getting a jump on your own with extra "volunteers" and divisions to be taken home.

    Workshop presenter Nancy Wotton Scarzello has over 35 years of experience as an herbalist, educator and presenter throughout New England. She currently serves on the governing Council of the Northeast Herbal Association and finds great enjoyment offering workshops and classes in the local community and from her home in Ticonderoga. A talented cook, author, and gardener, Nancy designed and installed the herb bed near the King's Garden in 2010, focusing on medicinal herbs.

    Fort Ticonderoga's King's Garden promises varying degrees of gorgeous as spring turns to summer with a progression of floral color and a succession of blooms. The garden opens for the season on May 25 with a stunning display of annuals and perennials. As the largest public garden in the Adirondack-Lake Champlain region and one of the oldest gardens in America, the King's Garden offers daily guided tours and self-guided activities for adults and children throughout the season. The King's Garden is open from 9:30 am until 5 pm daily, May 25 through October 16, 2013. Admission to the King's Garden is included with a general admission ticket to Fort Ticonderoga.
