  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2011 - The Piedmont Racing Expo has made its share of history...having been successful for 25 years. This year the Expo will celebrate the history of the hallowed grounds on which it will be held.

The NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC used to host some of the best dirt stock car racing in the Southeast. As a matter of fact, "The Fairgrounds" was the venue for the last NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup division) race on dirt. On June 26, 1969 Richard Petty won that race to end that important era in racing history. But the fairgrounds provided much more than just Grand National level competition. Some of the best short track shoes in the country frequented that piece of North Carolina red clay.

For the 2011 Expo, Phillip Walker of Phillip Walker Auctions and Piedmont Racing Expo has teamed up with RacersReunion.com, a group that has become synonymous with racing history over the past few years. "We are very pleased to be working with Phillip on this event," said Jeff Gilder of RacersReunion.com. "Anytime we have an opportunity to gather together the participants and fans of one of racing's great venues it is something we take very seriously. The NC State Fairgrounds has a great racing heritage and we're looking forward to celebrating it with some of the drivers who raced it and their fans."

The two-day event begins at 1:00 PM on Friday January 14, 2011 and runs through Saturday eventing. The event will include a race car parts auction and trade show along with this year's RacersReunion. An autograph session is scheduled for Saturday from noon until 2 PM and will include many who raced the at the fairgrounds along with Burt and Jason Myers of the famed television series, Madhouse.

Tickets are $10.00 with women and children under twelve admitted free. For more information go to www.piedmontracingexpo.com or visit the events calendar at Stock Car RacersReunion on RacersReunion.com.
